Tell us a little about yourself and what you do.
My name is Corina and I hand make the festival and bridal accessories under the label Wild & Free Jewelry. When I'm not in the office creating these designs, I'm out in the wilderness documenting my personal style for The Wild & Free Blog. I'm endlessly inspired by nature and the unique landscape of where I live in Santa Barbara with its surreal blue mountains, beautiful wild coastline, and stunning sunsets. In the rare instances when I'm not engaging in one of these two things, you could likely find me at a festival, a local concert with friends, or reading a book on the beach.
Where’s your favorite place to go to unwind?
Anywhere in Nature is my favorite place to go when I need a moment to breathe! Even if it's a small patch of flowers poking out on a sidewalk, I find admiring natural beauty like that helps me decompress. I would have to say though, that my all time favorite place when I need a major reset is Big Sur. I absolutely love it up there and every time I go, I return home feeling more energized and motivated. There's something about the pristine beauty, wild ocean and crisp air in Big Sur that reminds me what's truly important and grounds me when chaos or stress levels are at an all-time high.
What’s your life mantra?
I think the one thing I've held fast to in recent years is the mentality that everything happens for a reason and no matter what I will be okay. In times of emotional distress, I try and remind myself of this perspective and trust that even if I can't see it in the moment, every instance in life is an opportunity to grow and in the end, I will be a stronger, wiser person. In the past I've spent a lot of time obsessing over situations, wishing I could change the past and blaming myself, but recently, I've tried to adopt the idea that no matter the experience (good or bad) there is a lesson to learn and an avenue for growth. Life goes by so quickly and I want to live my days with as much happiness as possible which is why this mantra has become so important to me. It's sometimes a huge challenge to detach from taking an experience personally but I've found it helps me relieve a lot of unnecessary stress and remain present.
What are your favorite trends for fall?
One of my favorite things I gravitate back to every fall is the embellished denim jackets I reconstruct for Wild & Free Jewelry. There is a specific style, which is one of the first ones I ever designed, that I absolutely love and always look forward to wearing when the weather starts to cool off. It's designed with textiles I chose while in Guatemala a few years back and wearing it reminds me of my time in that magical country. Embellished denim adds a special touch to any outfit and I think it's so exciting to wear a one of a kind piece. They also look perfect with my coveted Gypsy05 pieces from over the years!
If you could vacation anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
Byron Bay! I traveled there for the first time in January and I fell in love. Everything about Byron is a complete dream. The people, the culture, and the setting amazed me. I'm counting down the days until I can go back.
Who’s your style icon?
I don't think I have anyone specific style icon because I get really inspired by an array of different people. Even looking at old fashion books from the 60's & 70's really inspires me. I also love the way my parents and friends dress. Sometimes I'll get excited just viewing an outfit on someone walking down the street. There is inspiration everywhere when it comes to fashion! There's so much to see and learn. I love it!
How do you balance work/life?
I feel as though a lot of time I don't balance work and life very well. It's something I'm still learning how to do. I tend to work around the clock, and since I became fully self-employed around 2 years ago, it's hard for me to stop working. I feel very fortunate in that the things I love to do have turned into work so while I do work a ton, it doesn't feel tiring. I'm always excited when I get to spend late nights in the office or when I have a big task in front of me to complete, and in a way, it's become very addicting. But, I do try and force myself every once in a while to go out into nature and watch the sunset (without taking photos) or leave my phone behind for a day. Little things like that help me find a balance amidst my daily tasks and workload.
